SUMMARY AND EXPLANATION:

Cytomegalovirus (CMV), a betaherpesvirus with a large double-stranded DNA genome, is characterized by its ability to establish lifelong latency in myeloid lineage cells. IgM antibodies to CMV emerge during primary infection and can reappear during viral reactivation, making them an important research marker for acute or recent immune stimulation. CMV is widely studied for its role in immune system modulation, including its capacity to drive expansions in T-cell subsets and alter host immunity. Research on CMV IgM dynamics is valuable for understanding viral pathogenesis, congenital transmission mechanisms, and the interplay between viral latency and immune surveillance.
